This book is an excellent introduction to the Commercial mortgage industry. It is up to date and the author makes an effort to state the distinction between the residential and commercial mortgage business. He also touches on important and relevant topics such as the sub prime crises and how it effected the mortgage industry and why people should not be afraid to get involved now, as there is ample opportunity. This is for the layperson, and he describes the nuts and bolts of the industry very well. Gineris also makes it easy for the reader to understand the vocabulary and concepts so inherent to the industry. He gets into lending, borrowing, commercial mortgage-backed securities, etc. Albeit, a strong income potential can be realized in a relatively short period of time (comparatively speaking), this is not a get rich quick scheme. But for those who work hard, smart and take this business seriously, one can make physician level income and have a lot of fun doing it.

I recently picked this book up to see if the mortgage industry was for me. After reading the book, I know that it’s definitely for me. This book was extremely informative and I feel fairly prepared to get a job in the industry. I know that there is still much to learn about becoming a mortgage broker, but this book is definitely a start.

I would highly recommend it for anyone who is thinking about entering into this industry.

I am not much of a reader at all, but this book is clear and to the point. If you are new to the mortgage industry this book will give you a good base of knowledge to get you started. It will not teach you all of the ins and outs, but will introduce you to terms and ideas essential for understanding what the heck you are talking about to clients. Some of the contents are a little more than the beginner needs to know, but you can easily bypass those parts. Overall a good book!

Like me, you may find this book extremely helpful even if you’re not considering a career as a mortgage broker. Here’s why. I have a mortgage, I just refinanced my mortgage, and I’m sure someday I’ll buy a new house and need another mortgage. This book explains in clear and easy-to-understand language the “terms” your real estate agent, mortgage broker, or banker use when presenting financing options to you. Think Economics 101 crossed with a primer on banking and personal finance. Everything from “What’s in a credit report” to “Who the heck is Freddie Mac” is discussed and explained. There are lots of extras in this book for the average reader. There’s an “Interest and Style” personality test in Chapter 4 that I found spot on and fun to take. There’s even a chapter on PDAs, cell phones, and a great explanation on just what a “Bluetooth” is and why I should look for that feature on my next laptop. And if I ever decide to start a small business, this book is packed with helpful hints and information about developing a business plan, time management, and marketing. Add this book to your library; it will assist you in being successful in the increasingly complicated business of everyday life.
